January 21, 2009I just got back from my first saltwater fly fishing adventure earlier this month. Me and the rest of the guys at The River’s Edge closed down the fly shop for a week and headed South of the border to fish the world renowned flats of Ascension Bay. We stayed at Pesca Maya Fishing Lodge located about three hours South of Cancun in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. From Pesca Maya you have the option of fishing either Ascension Bay (about 30 minutes by boat if the weather permits), or the Boca Paila Lagoons right behind the Lodge. We lucked out while we were down there and had great weather, allowing us the option of fishing Ascension Bay every day. It was mostly sunny with temps in the 80’s and relatively little wind…a welcome change from winter in Montana. (more…)
